Van
Allen Fine Art Gallery
Van Allen Fine Art Gallery (still under
construction),is
a place to
display
art done in a finer manner, but not necessarily a better manner, since it
takes an equal amount of skill to do a painting as to do a cartoon or
any
other piece of commercial art. There's just art, good bad and
indifferent.
We hope you're not indifferent to the art you find here, but the
contradiction
in terms is an old one, as today what we term masterpieces of say
Baroque
or Renaisance or Romantic art were often done for and under quite
commercial
circumstances. When the Pope was his client, Michelangelo didn't always
sleep well at night.Today, fine art can be "fine" or indeed quite
crude,or
one may pass by it never realizing it's meant to be art. There's arty ,
artsy- fartsy and art for arts sake. There are also designs on shower
curtains
or sewing machines, or during certain periods even parking meters and
street
lamps which I sometimes consider fine or great art. Also there's art
done
as part of a commercial production process, such as a film,TV
show,magazine,website,breadloaf
wrapper,or even a commercial itself that sticks in my mind forever and
I'll collect a copy of it if I can.I suppose today fine art is most
often
defined as that which is done purely for the love of it, or from an
inspiration
with no project in mind except the inspiration itself, for the beauty
of,or
other quality of the subject which bares treatment, tribute or variation
in the service of communication of an idea or feeling. It may not
necessarily
be done with a commercial motive in mind, but certainly is subject
hopefully
to commercial sales,(after all an artist has to eat and buy piant). But
here, I've rambled on longer than some of those disertations on a giant
blank canvas I had to listen to in art school. Just look and hopefully
enjoy. KVA
