Animation, Animation Design, & Direction

Our flounder,..uh founder  Keith Van Allen has designed, animated and adapted many characters for the screen, including Care Bears and Chester Cheetos. While working at  Atkinson Film Arts in Ottawa Ont., he was given the first scenes to animate in the first  TV special of the cuddly bruins with "things on their tummys";"Care Bears in the Land Without Feelings",and was asked to develop their walk and movements.Created by Hallmark Cards and "Those Characters from Cleveland",the bear's first outing was very ably directed by Pino Van Lambsverde, who had a predeliction  during production for refering to them as,"dem bears". Keith also animated on "The Raccoons",(a Gillis-Wiseman production),Curious George and others. He started in the business at Candy Apple Productions ,in Richmond VA ,working with Steve Segal and Phil Trumbo and others of that ol' Richmond cartoon gang ,working on commercials and PSA 's done often in the "big foot" style ,reminisant of  30's cartoons, which has nothing to do with rare footage of Sasquatch shot in British Colombia, although Keith would've loved to have been there and maybe even wear a suit for the cameras, but once he actually did  animate one for the Denver Hockey team's scoreboard.
Along the way,Keith  directed many commercials and short films, and pilots, for such clients as Bovril,Sears,MacDonalds,Xtree utility Software,The U.S.Dept.of Energy,MCA Records,as well as animating, and designing and writing. He also did storyboards and designs for TV shows like Warner Bros."Tazmania" featuring the Tazmanian Devil,The Velveteen Rabbit,Doug(for Nickelodeon),Nilus the Sandman(Delaney& Friends),Juste Pour Rire,NBC's "David Copperfield",The Legend of Hiawatha, as well as development work on many projects for feature film and TV,including 6 screenplays, one of which was sold.
While operating Van Allen Animation in his native Richmond VA, Keith directed, designed, animated and co-produced a  series of Chester Cheetos commercials for Central and South American markets. They were the first toons to combine Chester with computer generated backgrounds,as well as giving him a fuller and more classic animation look.In these spots Keith was able to indulge his "inner Tex Avery" to his heart's content.  Today Keith is intent on developing feature films both live and animated ,as well as his acting career. He also provides a wide range of artistic services for film ,TV and other media .See our PORTFOLIO pages for further info.

Care Bear in Taffy

No, not to worry, he's not melting, it's my animation drawing of a Care Bear stuck in taffy, from their first adventure,"Care Bears in the Land Without Feelings"(Atkinson Film Arts), where they were pitted against their extremely foul nemesis, rude ray gun pointer and name caller,"Professor Coldheart"(above).KVA
